Last month I climbed in my car and drove the length of the country to the Shropshire hills to be Sarah & Ronnie’s Walcot Hall Wedding Photographer. I absolutely love these guys and having met them at another wedding in Croatia a couple of years ago I’d been so excited to see them again that I genuinely hadn’t even considered what the venue was going to be like and I was completely blown away by it.
Looking out at the Shropshire hills – they’re probably mountains to be honest, I’m sure someone will correct me – with acres and acres of grounds and hidden gems around every turn it’s easily earned a place in my heart as one of my all time favourite venues. The house itself is grand, with huge windows with natural light pouring in, and crammed to bursting point with heirlooms and relics from generations gone by, paintings on the walls, with old rugs and blankets adorning the staircases. Then as soon as you’re outside again it’s a jungle of vintage cars in need of repair, stables and tack. If you can take your eyes off it for a second you’ll look up to see a wonderful lake with ducks and swans bobbing in the water. This place bursts with character.
Best of all, and I very nearly missed it, is the chapel. Well into the woods to the north of the house a small tin clad chapel pops out of nowhere with a bright red door. My jaw hit the floor when I saw it and I knew instantly that I’d be racing up there after dinner with Sarah and Ronnie to take some pictures. It turns out they already knew about it and were even staying inside the chapel for a few nights after the wedding. Wonderful.
Walcot Hall is absolutely sensational and everything that I could possibly want as a wedding photographer.
Away from the scenery and setting these guys gave me all and more that I hope for whenever I pick my camera up. Huge amounts of laughter, a really relaxed atmosphere and bucket loads of unashamed emotion. The reaction to seeing Sarah at the foot of the aisle from Ronnie is something that will stay with me forever and it was an honour to photograph these moments.
