Yesterday was my very first time as a Ravens Ait Island Wedding Photographer for Alice & Nicks wonderful wedding day. Ravens Ait is a truly unique venue, a tiny little island set right in the middle of the Thames near Kingston.
Before arriving at Ravens Ait Alice got ready at her parents home before driving to their local church where the service was conducted by Alice’s uncle which was an especially lovely touch. Seeing all the guests hopping onto the little boat to ferry them across the waters to the island was just fantastic. As always its the non traditional elements of the day that appeal to me the most, the fleeting stories that happen and can be quickly forgotten. Yesterday, it was an impromptu game of Beer Pong, bridesmaids Vs groomsmen. I’m not exactly sure who won and lost but it was great fun to be in the thick of.
There are stories everywhere at weddings, some are obvious, some less so. They can be short, barely noticed by anyone, but if I’m lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time I like to think I can take a frame that might just mean something for generations to come. Late into the day yesterday as I was walking back across the room to grab something from my bag I glanced to my right and saw Alice and her Mum having a lovely conversation, hand in hand. As I snatched up my camera and fired without even thinking about my settings Alices mum gave her the most loving of kisses upon her forehead, I got a little lucky and my settings were about right, and it’s the kind of picture I wish I had of me and my parents. The briefest of gestures, but a lifetime leading up to it.
Here’s a few frames from their day…
